This is one of several new galleries assembled to illustrate the rich diversity
of Allium flavum var. tauricum color forms.  The well known Allium flavum is
a yellow flowered species, but the lesser known Turkish variety tauricum has
flowers that are tinged with other colors in a variety of pastel shades. Through
the process of selecting color forms over the years and growing on seedling
progeny, an amazing range of colors have emerged.

The 2001 June - July season was a banner year for Allium growth and flowering,
with sufficient moisture but prevailing warm and dry weather. With one exception,
all of the photos in these galleries were taken with a digital camera during the
2001 "tauricum" season (late June through most of July).  As you can see, the
color and form diversity is remarkable, the outstanding variability undoubtedly
accelerated with cultivation, propagation, and selection effects. These plants
are among the best summertime flowering bulbs suitable for the rock
in my northern Massachusetts garden, USDA Zone 5.
