Allium stellatum - good pink
|
Allium
stellatum - late, deep pink form This excellent form of Allium stellatum flowers in August, September, and into October, valued for it's late flowering and rick pink blossoms. A widespread prairie plant from Canada, throughout much of the midwest, and south to Mexico, this fine American species is easy and carefree to grow. Having such a wide geographical distribution, the species is highly variable and should be sought after and grown from seed repeatedly in order to get different forms. |
| Allium
cernuum mixed late-flowering forms The widespread Nodding Onion can be found in innumerable forms, varying both in flower color and the disposition of the umbel an florets. The forms typically encountered in cultivation flower in early summer, June -July. All those shown here are mid-summer bloomers, flowering July to August. The pure white types are my favorite. |
Allium
cernuum deep rose purple form My favorite form of Nodding Onion that I've grown over many years, is this deep rose purple one. It blooms in June, with these striking candelabra umbels of waxy bells, suspended on thick, blackish pedicels. The stems reach 16"-18" (40 - 45 cm). Easy, drought resistant plant. Self sows readily. |
