The northeastern American native A. triphyllum
is best known
by the common name Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Extremely variable,
numerous names and subspecies have been described
based on spathe coloration and form. However, I
have found that single populations are remarkably variable,
therefore haven't given much notice to subspecific rankings.
Close-up view of a selected dark color form. The
deep wine-purple color is apparent when the light
shines through the hooded spathe.
