One of the recent introductions from China is
Corydalis elata. Said to be similar to C. flexuosa,
another popular Chinese corydalis, C. elata is
a much taller, upright growing species with equally
lovely clear blue flowers appearing in July on 24"
(60 cm) stems. The flowers are richly perfumed
like gardenia and coconut, lasting a very long
time, and excellent as a cut flower. Apparently
there are medium blue to deep blue forms in
cultivation. Pictured is a striking deep blue
form frequently grown in Europe.
